• wish to be tested before or during pregnancy
• have never been tested
• have a history of multiple sex partners
• have been diagnosed with other sexually transmitted diseases
• have ever had sex with persons who are at risk, protected or unprotected
• have had a sex partner from Africa, Southeast Asia, and/or other countries where syphilis rates are high
